12mth registrar/senior registrar position at the Hospital available Jan 2012 – Jan 2013.  The position offers a broad experience in General and Acute Care Paediatrics and fulfils the criteria for the requisite Rural/Regional training.  There is a potential option to configure the position to include a component of Community and Developmental paediatrics (accredited for Community/Developmental Advanced Training)

 

The Department of Paediatrics provides regional services to a population of 30,000 children and adolescents.   We have a staff of 4 paediatricians, 5 paediatric registrars, and  3 RMO’s.  Acute care responsibilities include a busy inpatient service with a 30 bed Children’s ward with a dedicated Adolescent Unit, a 15 bed level 2 neonatal unit with 3 ICU cots for an obstetric service with 1600 deliveries/yr.  Registrars are involved in the provision of ambulatory services within the hospital setting (with a range of visiting subspecialist clinics) and there is an option for involvement in the Refugee Primary Health Care Service, the Tasmanian Youth Detention Facility, and Child and Family Services and Child Protection Services.  
 
Specific Developmental and Behavioural case allocation within a supported and supervised dedicated OP clinic with training in the Griffiths Mental Development Scales is available as is involvement in assessment and management formulation of children and adolescents referred to the Regional Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.  There is an active registrar training program with a full postgraduate and undergraduate teaching schedule including Paediatric Grand Rounds, Journal Club, clinicopathological sessions, as well as weekly clinical presentations.  The University of Tasmania undergraduate paediatric training is largely undertaken at the LGH with an important teaching role provided by the registrars.  Research is keenly encouraged and funding is potentially available through the Clifford Craig Research Foundation for approved projects.
 
To be eleigible for this position you will ened to have at least 2 years post graduate in pediatrics. In addition ideally you will have general registration
 
  • Meet the requirements for registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Council of Tasmania
  • Ideally hold post graduate qualifications in Pediatric Medicine with experience, ideally from either Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, the US or Canada
  • Be happy to live in a state that has the cleanest air in the world
  • Be happy to be part of a close knit team
